The “Heavy Gang” prepare the clay, then fill and erect the frames – the work typically starts in May. We re-use clay from previous year adding new clay if required.
Although termed ‘Heavy Gang” people from all ages and fitness can be involved, there is woodwork, painting and general maintenance to do.
Timetable
- Saturday 31 May: Puddling of the clay, this involves mixing the clay that has been stored in drums filled with water, so that we have a nice smooth clay ready to sieved before going in the frames. Come to the Bath House at 10.00am
- Tuesday 3 June: Sieving of clay. Time TBA
- Tuesday 17 June: Soak the frames in the Bath House. 6.30pm, need at least 4 people to put the frames in the water.
- Wednesday 16 July: Erect marquees in churchyard. Meet there at 6.30pm
- Thursday 17 July: Move main frames and 3 barrels of clay from Bath house to the marquee. Fill frames with clay. Meet there at 6.30pm
- Tuesday 22 July: Put up bunting. Meet in the Nook at 6.30pm
- Wednesday 23 July: Put clay in smaller frames such as the dollies that sit on top of the main well. Meet at 6.30pm.
- Friday 25 July: Assemble platform for main well and bath house well). Put up the finished Wells. Meet in the Nook at 6.00pm
- Monday 4 August: Disassemble wells and put back in the Bath house. Meet at 6.30pm
- Tuesday 5 August: Take down bunting. Meet at 6.30pm
